Overview

Prepare to experience and live the country life in a village in Jaisalmer where you will not only eat & drink like a local, but will also visit the farm, interact with the locals & work around with them.

This tour has been designed to offer a unique yet pleasant experience of living with a local family where you will not only learn about the rich culture & tradition of Jaisalmer but will also get to live exactly like them. You may choose to participate in helping the family with household work or farming. Moreover, you will also be in for a nice camel ride around the village.

In this tour, you will get plenty of opportunity to interact with the friendly and welcoming villagers, listen to interesting folklores & legends and learn a bit more about the rich culture & tradition of Jaisalmer.

Apart from this, you may also choose to sleep in a peaceful yet quaint village home which will give you plenty of opportunity to live & experience life like a local villager.


Itinerary

Day 1

  • The village tour starts at around 8:00 am in the morning from Jaisalmer.
  • You will reach the Moolsagar village in the Thar Desert after an approximately 15 kms journey to see a couple of mud houses or huts.
  • Then, you will also visit an old garden and a large water tank that used to act as the summer retreat for the royals.
  • After spending some time in Moolsagar, you will head towards Khaderon ki Dhani, another village of the Thar Desert where you will visit a couple of houses and see how the villagers get water from the wells. You will also be served tea or fresh cow’s buttermilk here.
  • Soon, you will head towards Megwalon ki Dhani, a small village in the Jaisalmer District. Here you will visit the village to see the architecture with a glimpse into the lifestyle of the villagers and interact with the locals.
  • After this, you will visit Jogiyon ka Dera, a gypsy village where you will see how the gypsy community lives. Here you might also witness a local dance & music program by the local gypsy community.
  • After spending some time here, you will then head towards Damodara village, where you will be served a welcome drink on arrival.
  • Soon, you will feast upon a fresh-prepared vegetarian lunch with spiced buttermilk.
  • Then, you may grab some rest for about 2-3 hours.
  • After you wake up, you will be served a cup of hot refreshing tea.
  • Then you will wander around in the village, feed the cattle and interact with the locals.
  • Soon, you will meet your friendly camels and ride upon them into the desert for about 30-40 minutes.
  • Here you may play in the dunes, click pictures, and witness an enchanting sunset.
  • Then you will come back to the village after a 30-minute camel ride.
  • On reaching the village, you will be served tea and some snacks.
  • After having tea, you will sit with the locals where you may choose to talk to them or play with the kids.
  • Then, you will be served a delicious vegetarian dinner.
  • After dinner, you will come back to Jaisalmer or choose to grab a peaceful sleep in your own private room within the country house.

Day 2 (Optional)

  • Today, you will wake up early to witness a mesmerizing sunrise.
  • Then, you may brush your teeth, take a bath and freshen up for a fresh new day.
  • After that, you may choose to participate in an aarti or a prayer to please the Gods.
  • After aarti, you will be served a healthy breakfast.
  • After breakfast, you will visit the farm where you will learn about the various vegetables, fruits and cereals grown in the desert. You may also choose to work here to have an experience of living life like a farmer.
  • Then, you will head back towards Jaisalmer with sweet memories of this exotic village tour.

    The Mool Sagar is a small village that is popular for its mud houses, beautiful garden and a large water tank. It used to be the summer retreat for the royal families

    The Khaderon ki Dhani is another village within the Thar Desert that is quite popular for having the most number of wells.
  • Megwalon ki Dhani
    The Megwalon ki Dhani is a quaint village which boasts of having a blend of mud houses and pakka houses.

    This is a small gypsy village which houses the local gypsy community that is more popular for their dance and music programme.
  • Damodara
    This village is situated on the Jaisalmer - Sam Road near some small sand dunes. It also has a small farming area nearby and is home to a lot of cattle.
